WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward Jenelle Kohanchuk and junior goaltender Kerrin Sperry of the No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team were named Hockey East Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.
Kohanchuk collected a career-high five points (2g, 3a) on Friday in the Terriers' 7-1 win over Providence before she scored a shorthanded goal on Sunday to complete her six-point weekend. The Winnipeg, Man., native now has six goals and nine assists for 15 points, good for third on the Terriers.
Sperry allowed just two goals in two games this past weekend, including a 19-save performance in a 2-1 victory over No. 6/5 Harvard on Sunday. She has now led the Terriers to four wins against nationally ranked opponents this season, including three against top-five teams. This was the second Defensive Player of the Week award for Sperry this year.
The Terriers will be back in action on Monday, Nov. 26, when they welcome the Russian national team to Walter Brown Arena for an exhibition contest. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
