The Boston University women's ice hockey team will face its first Hockey East opponent of the season when the Terriers travel to Northeastern for a Tuesday night tilt at Matthews Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The two teams last played each other in the Hockey East title game in March, with the Terriers earning a 5-2 win for their second straight league crown. BU went 4-1-0 last season against Northeastern, with the one loss coming in the Beanpot.
BU (3-1-1, 0-0-0 WHEA) defeated Yale, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in the Terriers' home opener at Walter Brown Arena. Freshman Maddie Elia tallied her first collegiate goal and sophomore Sarah Lefort had two points, including her second game-winning goal in three games. She now has nine game winners in her brief career.
Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry leads Hockey East in goals-against average (1.70) and save percentage (.947), having allowed just seven goals in four starts this season. She has made at least 30 saves in three of those four starts, including two 34-save performances on the road to begin the year.
The Terriers' penalty kill has been terrific through five games. BU leads the league in penalty kill percentage (91.7), limiting opponents to just two power play goals in 24 chances. The Terriers also boast the best team defense in the conference, having held teams to just two goals per game so far this season.
Northeastern (4-4-0, 1-1-0 WHEA) snapped a three-game losing streak and salvaged a weekend split with Providence on Saturday with a 4-1 road win. The Huskies are just 1-2-0 at Matthews Arena this season. Sophomore Paige Savage leads the team in points (8) and assists (5) while senior Kelly Wallace leads NU with five goals. Junior Chloe Desjardins has started all four games between the pipes for Northeastern, posting a 4-4-0 record with a 2.93 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
Tuesday's contest is the first of three this week for the Terriers. BU will be back in action on Friday night when it heads to Durham, N.H., for a league game against New Hampshire. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
