WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Sperry was spectacular on Sunday afternoon in a 2-1 win at New Hampshire. She stopped 29 shots, including 11 in the third period, to help BU improve to 7-0-0 in Hockey East. Her most important save was on a breakaway chance late in the final frame with the Terriers still clinging to their one-goal lead.
The North Reading, Mass., native also made 29 saves in a 3-1 loss at No. 5/6 Harvard on Friday night. She has not allowed more than three goals in any game this season and is the only league goaltender with a goals-against average under 2.00.
This is the second time that Sperry has been named Defensive Player of the Week. She also earned the honor on Nov. 4. Sperry was also named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for October.
BU will return to action on Dec. 3 when the Terriers visit Northeastern. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
