WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry and senior captain Louise Warren of the Boston University women's ice hockey team each won a Hockey East weekly award, the league office announced Monday.
Warren won Co-Player of the Week honors while Sperry was named Defensive Player of the Week. The Terriers were also honored as Team of the Week after winning three Hockey East games in five days, including two road victories.
Sperry went 3-0-0 last week with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .965 save percentage. She posted a 28-save shutout on Saturday in her 100th career start, a 6-0 win against Vermont. Sperry also shined in a 3-2 overtime win at Northeastern and a 3-1 win at New Hampshire. The North Reading, Mass., native made 83 saves in three games and is now 6-0-1 this season.
Warren was instrumental in the Terriers' three wins, as she scored five goals and added an assist for a six-point week. She potted the overtime-winning goal on Tuesday night at Northeastern and broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period to lift BU to a 3-1 win at New Hampshire on Friday night. After her two-goal effort on Friday, Warren scored twice in the third period of Saturday's win against Vermont.
BU is the only unbeaten team in the conference and is tied atop the league standings with Boston College, though the Terriers have a game in hand. They will host three Hockey East games this week at Walter Brown Arena, beginning with Wednesday night's contest against Connecticut. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
