The No. 10 Boston University women's ice hockey team will welcome Connecticut to Walter Brown Arena on Wednesday night. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
BU (6-1-1, 3-0-0 WHEA) moved back into both national polls after three wins last week, all against league foes. The Terriers most recently dispatched Vermont, 6-0, thanks to 28 saves from senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry and goals from five different skaters.
Wednesday's contest will be the 27th all-time meeting between the two schools. BU has won 11 straight games against the Huskies, beginning with a 2-1 overtime win in the 2010 Hockey East title game.
Senior captain Louise Warren, the reigning Hockey East Co-Player of the Week, leads the Terriers with seven goals and nine points. She is fourth in the nation with an average of 0.88 goals per game. Sophomore Sarah Lefort has a four-game point streak (3g, 3a) and is second on the squad with eight points (5g, 3a).
The Terriers have not allowed more than three goals in any of their eight games this season, which is the longest such streak to open a season in program history. Sperry has been a large part of the success, as she is second in the NCAA in save percentage (.954) and seventh in the nation in goals-against average (1.39). The BU penalty kill has also been strong, as it ranks fourth in the country (92.7%).
Connecticut (3-5-1, 0-1-1 WHEA) trailed Maine, 4-1, late in the third period before rattling off three straight goals to force overtime and earn a 4-4 tie. The Huskies lost their only other league tilt of the season on Friday, suffering a 4-0 home setback to Vermont.
Junior Sarah MacDonnell leads the team with eight points (3g, 5a) and is tied with sophomore Michela Cava for the team lead in assists with five. Junior Kayla Campero has scored four goals to lead the Huskies. Sophomore Elaine Chuli and senior Sarah Moses have split time between the pipes, with each goaltender appearing in five games, four of which Moses started. Moses has the better save percentage (.919) and record (2-2-0) but Chuli’s 3.29 goals-against average is best.
