The No. 10 Boston University women's ice hockey team will conclude a four-game homestand when the Terriers host Maine for a pair of games this weekend at Walter Brown Arena.
BU (7-1-1, 4-0-0 WHEA) dispatched Connecticut, 6-2, on Wednesday night. Six different skaters lit the lamp, seven Terriers tallied at least two points and freshman Victoria Hanson stopped a career-high 26 shots to earn her first collegiate win.
The Terriers hold a 16-6-2 all-time record against the Black Bears, including a three-game sweep last season. BU has won eight of the last 11 tilts against Maine and is 7-3-0 all-time against the Black Bears at Walter Brown Arena.
Senior captain Louise Warren (7g, 3a), the reigning Hockey East Co-Player of the Week, and sophomore Sarah Lefort (6g, 4a) are tied for the team lead in points with 10. Eight different Terriers have at least five points and every skater who has dressed has registered at least one point. BU has also boasted a varied group of goal-scorers in the last two games; nine different Terriers have combined for the team's last 12 goals.
While BU has a potent offense (3.33 goals per game), its defense has been the biggest reason for the Terriers' early-season success. They have not allowed more than three goals in any of their nine games this season, which is the longest such streak to open a season in program history. Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry, the reigning Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, is second in the NCAA in save percentage (.954) and seventh in the nation in goals-against average (1.39).
Maine (0-5-3, 0-1-3 WHEA) has yet to earn a win but has earned a point in each of its last two tilts. The Black Bears tied Northeastern, 1-1, on Nov. 1 before a losing a 4-1 lead against Connecticut and eventually earning a 4-4 tie with the Huskies on Nov. 3.
Junior Jennifer More leads the team with four points and is tied with freshman Karissa Kirkup for the lead in goals with two. Four Black Bears have at least two assists and seven skaters have collected at least two points this season. Junior goaltender Meghann Treacy has started all eight games for Maine this year. She has a 3.53 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
