BOSTON - Juniors Shannon Doyle and Marie-Philip Poulinof the Boston University women's ice hockey team were honored as New England Women's Division I All-Stars, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced on Tuesday.
Both skaters were an integral part of the Terriers' most successful season in the program's eight-year history. BU (28-6-3) won the Hockey East regular-season title and successfully defended its Hockey East Championship, the Terriers' third in the last four seasons. The Terriers won a program-record 28 games and advanced to the national title game for the second time in three years.
A junior transfer from Colgate, Doyle made an immediate impact on the Terriers en route to her first All-New England selection. She set new career highs in goals (6), assists (18) and points (24) and led the league with 88 blocked shots. A Hockey East First Team All-Star, Doyle was a plus-21 and was second among conference defensemen in scoring. The Baldwin, Ont., native was especially strong in the postseason, as Doyle notched a point in all but one postseason contest and had a four-game point streak over that six-game stretch.
After missing a majority of last season due to injury, Poulin rebounded with one of the best seasons in program history. The junior co-captain set new career highs in points (55) and assists (36) and was unanimously selected as a Hockey East First Team All-Star. She also made the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team after she scored a goal and assist in each of the two games. The Beauceville, Que., native scored a point in 29 of her 35 games, was fifth in the league in plus-minus (+37) and won 64.1 percent of the faceoffs she took, good for third in Hockey East.
Poulin will skate for Team Canada at the IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship held April 2-9 in Ottawa, Ont. She, along with former Terrier teammates Jenn Wakefield ('12) and Catherine Ward ('11) will look to claim gold for the second straight year.
