The fifth-ranked Boston University women's ice hockey team will close the first semester on Monday night when the Terriers welcome Providence to Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
BU (11-3-2, 7-2-0 WHEA) has won eight straight games at home against Providence dating back to the 2009-10 season. The Terriers most recently edged the Friars, 3-2, in last year's Hockey East quarterfinals. BU has an overall home record of 11-2-1 against Providence.
The Terriers enter Monday on a six-game unbeaten streak, having gone 5-0-1 in that stretch. They have won three straight games, scoring four goals in each victory and limiting their opponents to two goals or fewer in all three triumphs. BU defeated Vermont, 4-1, on Saturday thanks to a two-goal effort from Sarah Lefort and a goal each from sophomore Samantha Sutherland and freshman Rebecca Leslie.
Lefort has been red hot for the Terriers, scoring at least two goals in three of the last four games. She leads the team in goals (13), assists (12) and points (25). Her linemates have also been producing points of late, with senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin on a three-game point streak (2g, 5a) and Sutherland on a four-game point streak (2g, 2a). On the blue line, junior Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga has posted a point in each of the last three games, scoring once and adding three helpers.
Providence (3-13-3, 2-5-1 WHEA) went without a win through its first 12 games, but has gone 2-2 in its last four fixtures. The Friars are 1-8-2 on the road this season and rank last in the league with an average of 1.36 goals per game away from home.
Senior Beth Hanrahan leads the Friars in goals (8) and points (13) while classmate Haley Frade is the team leader in assists with seven to go along with four goals. Sophomore Cassidy Carels is the only other Friar with at least 10 points thanks to her four goals and six assists. Junior goaltender Allie Morse has started 15 games, posting a 3-10-2 record with an .893 save percentage and a 3.28 goals-against average.
