The Boston University men's lacrosse team will begin a two-game homestand on Saturday when the Terriers welcome Navy to Nickerson Field for a Patriot League matchup. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
BU (1-7, 1-3 PL) trails Navy (3-5, 2-3 PL) by just half a game in the Patriot League standings for the sixth and final playoff spot. The Terriers are in search of their first home win in program history; next weekend's game against Army (April 5) is the Terriers' last game at Nickerson Field prior to the Patriot League tournament.
Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Sam Talkow has won his last 16 faceoffs dating back to the Terriers' 12-7 win at Lafayette on March 15. He was a perfect 12-of-12 at the faceoff X at Bucknell last weekend while also collecting seven ground balls. Talkow owns the best faceoff percentage in the conference at .614 (89-of-145) and is second in the Patriot League with 54 ground balls.
In addition to Talkow's domination on faceoffs, the Terrier defense has been fantastic over the last three games. BU held Bucknell to just one goal in the second half and freshman goalkeeper Christian Carson-Banister enters Saturday with a shutout streak of 30:14. The Terriers have allowed just seven goals in each of their last three tilts and, taking away the season-opener at Mercer, have allowed an average of 9.00 goals per game.
The Midshipmen enter Saturday having lost three straight games, including a 10-7 home loss to Colgate on March 22. Senior Sam Jones leads the Mids with 28 points and 12 assists while sophomore T.J. Hanzsche is tops on the team with 17 goals. Sophomore John Connors has started all eight games for Navy and owns a 9.18 goals-against average along with a .527 save percentage.
Following Saturday's game, the Terriers will face off against Army at Nickerson Field on April 5 at 12 p.m.
