CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Freshman Cal Dearth of the Boston University men's lacrosse team was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Dearth tallied two goals and added an assist to lead the Terriers with three points in their 9-8 win at Holy Cross on April 19. He began his day with a second-quarter goal to give BU a 3-1 lead before a great individual effort in the third quarter led to his second of the game. Dearth then supplied a crucial assist on sophomore Sammy Davis' goal to end a 5-0 run by the Crusaders.
The Ridgefield, Conn., native also collected two ground balls in the victory. He has been one of the top freshman midfielders in the Patriot League this year, in particular in the last seven games. He has collected at least two points in each of the last five fixtures and in six of the last seven contests. Dearth leads the team in points (24) and assists (13) while also ranking third in ground balls (26).
This is the second time that Dearth has earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. He was also recognized on March 17 thanks to his six-point (2g, 4a) performance in the Terriers' 12-7 win at Lafayette.
