The Boston University men's lacrosse team will host Army on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field in the Terriers' final Patriot League home game of the season. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
BU (1-8, 1-4 PL) and Army (6-3, 4-1 PL) will be game one of the first-ever lacrosse doubleheader at Nickerson Field. The women's lacrosse team will look to extend its win streak to six games when the Terriers host Lehigh at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday is also BU Youth Lacrosse Day; all youth lacrosse teams can receive free admission to the game. To request free tickets please visit GoTerriers.com/youthlaxday. Following the game against Army, the men's lacrosse team will be signing autographs on the concourse underneath the stands.
This weekend's contest will feature two of the best faceoff specialists in the conference. Freshman Sam Talkow ranks fourth among NCAA freshmen and fourth in the Patriot League in faceoff percentage (.595). He will go up against Alex Daly, who is second in the league at 61.9 percent. Talkow has been excellent against the Patriot League's best this season; he was 1-of-1 against Lehigh's Casey McAdam (.621) and 10-of-15 against Alex Kinnealey of Colgate (.600).
The Terriers will look to once again get out to a fast start. BU has scored the opening goal in each of the last three games and has scored more goals in the first 15 minutes than in any other quarter. Freshman Ryan Johnston will also look to extend his point streak to six games. He has 10 goals and two assists for 12 points in the last five games.
Army has won its last two tilts and three of its last four games, with the one loss a 7-6 setback at No. 1 Loyola (Md.). The Black Knights earned an 11-6 home win over Bucknell last Saturday.
Junior John Glesener leads the Black Knights in goals (24) and points (33); he is second and third, respectively, in those categories. Sophomore Will Mazzone leads Army with 11 assists while classmate Alex Daly has won 61.9 percent of his faceoffs this season. Junior Sam Somers is the top goalkeeper in the Patriot League this season, ranking first in goals-against average (5.44) and save percentage (.615).
Following Saturday's showdown, BU will begin a three-game road trip on Tuesday night (April 8) at Harvard. That game will be shown live on ESPN 3.
