The Boston University men's lacrosse team will begin a three-game road trip on Tuesday when the Terriers trek to No. 17 Harvard at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Both BU and Harvard will be wearing One Fund socks when the teams square off, helping to honor the victims of last year's Boston Marathon bombings. For more information on The One Fund or how you can help, please visit OneFundBoston.org.
Tuesday's tilt will be the Terriers' second straight against a ranked opponent. BU (1-9, 1-5 PL) played admirably against No. 18/20 Army before falling, 8-7, this past Saturday at Nickerson Field. The Terriers have been in all three of their games against top-20 competition this year, losing by a combined six goals to Army, Colgate and Lehigh.
Freshman Sam Talkow continued his fantastic season at the faceoff X with another 10-win performance. He was 10-of-16 on Saturday against Army and collected a game-high seven ground balls. Talkow is second Patriot League and is 15th in the NCAA with a .598 percentage. The Terriers were 11-of-17 on faceoffs Saturday, as freshman Greg Marzec was 1-for-1 in his first-ever attempt.
The BU offense has been balanced over the last three games, with 10 different Terriers finding the back of the net. Thirteen of their last 17 goals have been assisted, with freshman Cal Dearth recording five helpers in the last two tilts. BU has also been better of late in battling for ground balls. Over their last three games, the Terriers have gathered 84 ground balls, compared to just 72 over the previous three contests.
Harvard (6-4, 3-0 Ivy League) enters the game having knocked off then-No. 2 and previously unbeaten Cornell, 14-9, on Saturday. Sophomore Will Walker leads the Crimson with 26 goals and 29 points while classmate Devin Dwyer has a team-high 20 assists. Ten different Crimson have at least 10 points.
Junior goalkeeper Jake Gambitsky leads Harvard with a 10.33 goals-against average and a .505 save percentage. BU's Christian Carson-Banister has slightly better numbers, owning a 10.23 GAA and a .531 save percentage.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Terriers will return to Patriot League play when they face top-ranked Loyola (Md.) on Saturday. Game time in Baltimore is set for 1 p.m.
