WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Seven members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Friday.
Among the Terriers selected to the squad was 2014 graduate Meghan Riggs, who achieved "Distinguished Scholar" status after being named to the All-Academic Team during all four years of her BU career. Riggs received her bachelor's degree in journalism this past May with a 3.41 grade-point average in 2014. To be selected to the All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or higher in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.
Four players are first-time honorees, including freshmen goaltenders Mia Becker (3.07, engineering) and Victoria Hanson (3.21, business administration & management). Senior Shannon Doyle (3.21, English) and junior Kayla Tutino (3.31, communication) also made the team for the first time. Doyle earned her bachelor's degree in May and will return to the team for the 2014-15 campaign for her senior season.
All four Terrier goaltenders were recognized, as seniors Braly Hiller (3.29, history) and Kerrin Sperry (3.78, international affairs) joined Becker and Hanson on the 93-member team. Hiller graduated this past May while Sperry was pursuing her master's degree; both netminders were honored for the second time.
This is the sixth straight season that BU has boasted at least seven players on the All-Academic Team.
