August 21, 2014 | Women's Ice Hockey
Former Boston University women’s ice hockey standouts Kaleigh Fratkin, Taylor Holze and Louise Warren were each selected in the 2014 Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) Draft on Tuesday night.
All three players graduated in 2014 having won three Hockey East championships and helped BU advance to four straight NCAA tournament appearances, including two national title games. Fratkin and Holze were both selected by the Boston Blades while Warren will skate for the Calgary Inferno. Warren was a third-round selection, followed by Fratkin in the fifth round and Holze in the 14th round.
Warren captained last year’s squad to a third consecutive league tournament crown and turned in a career year with 27 goals, 19 assists and 46 points. She never missed a game in her collegiate career, playing in 151 games and totaling 108 points (55g, 53a). Fratkin also played in all 151 games of her four-year stint at BU, accumulating 66 career points (9g, 57a). She also had a career campaign in 2013-14, scoring four goals and adding 26 assists for 30 points. Both Fratkin and Warren were New England Division I and Hockey East First-Team All-Stars last season.
Holze played in 122 career games for the Terriers, totaling 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points. She lit the lamp four times and added seven assists for 11 points in her senior season. Holze’s best season was 2011-12, when she played in all 38 games and set career highs in goals (5), assists (11) and points (16).
This is the fourth consecutive year in which at least two Terriers were selected in the CWHL Draft. Class of 2013 members Jill Cardella, Alissa Fromkin and Shannon Mahoney were taken by the Blades last year, 2012 graduates Jenn Wakefield and Tara Watchorn were selected in 2012 while Catherine Ward ('11) and Jillian Kirchner ('11) were taken in the 2011 draft.
