The Boston University women's ice hockey team will hit the road for just the third time this season when the Terriers face New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
BU (4-4-0, 3-1-0 WHEA) has won eight straight and 10 of its last 11 games against New Hampshire (1-7-0, 1-3-0 WHEA), including three consecutive contests at Whittemore Center. Overall, the Terriers own a 15-14-3 edge in the all-time series.
This will be the first time that junior Alexis Crossley will face her former team. The transfer skated for the Wildcats for two seasons (2012-14). During her time in Durham, Crossley was a Hockey East All-Rookie selection and a Hockey East Second Team All-Star. She totaled 32 points (11g, 21a) in 59 games with the Wildcats, including 24 points (7g, 17a) as a freshman.
The Wildcats will catch a bit of a break on Sunday, as the Terriers will be without senior Sarah Lefort. The Ormstown, Quebec, native is with Team Canada for the 4 Nations Cup that begins on Nov. 4. In her career against UNH, Lefort has tallied 14 points (11g, 3a) over just five different games, including a hat trick and a four-goal game against the Wildcats.
While Lefort is out of the lineup, senior Kayla Tutino will play and has also collected 14 points against the Wildcats with two goals and 12 assists. Juniors Maddie Elia (2g, 3a) and Samantha Sutherland (5a) each have five points, as does sophomore Victoria Bach (3g, 2a). Sophomore Rebecca Leslie (1g, 3a) and senior Rebecca Russo (2g, 2a) each have four points against New Hampshire, while senior Dakota Woodworth (2g, 1a) has three.
Freshman Sammy Davis leads the Terriers with five goals and is third among Hockey East rookies in points with seven (5g, 2a). Leslie still leads the team with nine points on two goals and seven assists.
New Hampshire won its first game of the season on Friday night, a 4-0 triumph at Vermont. Four different skaters scored at UVM. Junior Jonna Curtis leads the Wildcats with five goals and eight points, and she is also tied with three others for the lead in assists with three.
Senior Vilma Vaattovaara made 18 saves to earn the shutout on Friday. She owns a 3.73 goals-against average and an .871 save percentage in five starts (1-4-0).
Sunday’s showdown is the first of three games in six days for the Terriers. BU will host Yale on Tuesday (Nov. 3) for Faculty/Staff Night and then welcome No. 2/3 Boston College to Walter Brown Arena on Saturday (Nov. 7). Tuesday's tilt is set for 7 p.m.
