The Boston University women's ice hockey team will host No. 2 Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
Saturday is ROTC/Military Appreciation Day. All active/retired military personnel and their guests will receive free admission when they show a valid military ID at the Walter Brown Arena box office beginning at 2 p.m. They can also register here. In addition, all ROTC members in uniform will get free admission, and the first 300 fans will receive a free BU camo hat.
The Terriers are on a three-game win streak following their 7-1 win over Yale on Tuesday night. Junior Maddie Elia notched four points, including her first collegiate hat trick, while linemates Rebecca Russo (5a) and Rebecca Leslie (2g, 3a) each had five points. Russo's five assists are a program record and Tuesday was the first time that two Terriers tallied five points in the same game.
BU (6-4-1, 4-1-0 WHEA) and BC (10-0-0, 4-0-0 WHEA) are renewing their rivalry for the 41st time, with the Terriers having won the last meeting, a 4-1 triumph in the 2015 Hockey East championship game. BU has won the last two WHEA title tilts against BC and is 16-19-5 all-time against the Eagles.
Senior Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga has six points (1g, 5a) against BC, while Elia (3g, 2a) and junior Samantha Sutherland (3g, 1a) have collected five and four points against BC, respectively. Other multi-point producers in their careers against BC are Russo (1g, 1a) and fellow seniors Kayla Tutino (1g, 3a) and Jordan Juron (1g, 1a). In her last two starts against the Eagles, junior goaltender Victoria Hanson owns a .956 save percentage.
The Terriers will remain without senior Sarah Lefort, who continues to skate for Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup. Freshman Sammy Davis, who was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month on Wednesday, has moved up to Lefort's spot and has scored twice while on a line with Tutino and sophomore Victoria Bach. Davis leads all NCAA rookies with seven goals entering the weekend.
Sophomore Erin O'Neil has been between the pipes for all three Terrier victories during their current win streak. In those wins, she boasts a .936 save percentage and a 2.06 goals-against average. At home, O’Neil owns a .943 save percentage and a 1.79 goals-against average this season. She and the other Terrier penalty killers have successfully killed 11 straight power plays over the last two tilts.
BC hasn't allowed a goal in its last three games and in five of its last six tilts, having outscored its opponents, 30-1, in that six-game stretch. Senior Alex Carpenter is second in the NCAA in points (23) and goals (14) while classmate Haley Skarupa is third in the nation with 13 assists this season. Sophomore Katie Burt, the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, has a .958 save percentage and a 0.98 goals against average. She also has five shutouts this season.
Saturday's showdown is the first of a home-and-home series between the B-line rivals. The Terriers will play at BC on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
