Terrier Trio Named IL Preseason All-Americans
December 8, 2015 | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Juniors Christian Carson-Banister, Cal Dearth and Sam Talkow of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were all named preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse on Tuesday.
This is the first time in program history that any Terrier has been honored as a preseason All-American. All three players were honorable mention selections. BU was one of just three Patriot League schools to boast more than one All-American.
Carson-Banister has been terrific between the pipes for BU in his two seasons in Scarlet and White. In 2015 he started all 12 games in which he played and led the Patriot League with a .557 save percentage. Carson-Banister posted 8.91 goals-against average last year and allowed fewer than 10 goals in eight of his 12 starts, including a career-low five in a season-opening win against Mercer.
A First Team All-Patriot League honoree last season, Dearth is poised to be one of the top midfielders in the country in 2016. He collected 42 points in 19 goals and 23 assists out of the midfield in 2015, all of which were career highs. Dearth was also strong on the defensive side of the ball last year, causing six turnovers and gathering 23 ground balls. He set the single-game program record last season for points in a game with seven and assists in a game with six.
Talkow was one of the top faceoff specialists in 2015, earning Second Team All-Patriot League recognition for his tenacious work at the X. He ranked fifth in the NCAA and first in the conference in faceoff percentage at .659 (191-of-290), and he also led the Patriot League in ground balls per game (7.43). Talkow scored a career-high nine goals. His highlight came when he won an NCAA-best 26 faceoffs and collected an NCAA-best 18 ground balls in 18-11 victory at then-No. 18 Colgate on March 7.
BU will open its 2016 season on Feb. 6 when the Terriers host Providence at Nickerson Field.
