DYNASTY: Terriers Win Fourth Straight Hockey East Championship

HYANNIS, Mass. - Senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin had two goals and an assist, including the game-winner 2:40 into the third period, to lift the Boston University women's ice hockey team to the program¹s fourth straight Hockey East championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 1 Boston College on Sunday afternoon at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center.

BU (25-8-3) earned its first-ever win over a top-ranked team and advanced to its sixth straight NCAA tournament in the process. The Terriers are the second team to win four straight league tournaments and become the first team in Hockey East history to claim five Hockey East trophies. They will face fourth-seeded Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday (March 14) at 3 p.m. ET.

Named Tournament MVP, 2015 Patty Kazmaier Award finalist Poulin completed an outstanding weekend with five goals in both wins in Hyannis. She finished the 2015 tournament with six goals and six assists for 12 points. Her final assist was the 100th of her celebrated collegiate career.

Sophomore Maddie Elia scored in a WHEA title game for the second straight year while junior Sarah Lefort had an assist and the empty net goal. ClassmatesKayla Tutinoand Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga also had an assist, as did senior Shannon Doyle. Doyle and Tutino joined Poulin on the Hockey East All-Tournament Team.

Victoria Hanson was outstanding for the Terriers as she won her fourth straight postseason start. The sophomore netminder finished with 32 saves, including a game-saving stop with 8:30 left in the third period. With the Terriers on a power play, the Eagles' Emily Field created a shorthanded breakaway chance, but Hanson came up with a blocker save to preserve the 2-1 lead.

Poulin opened the scoring 4:56 into the first period. Lefort won a race to the puck deepthe BC zone and fed a wide-open Poulin in the slot. The senior captain made a move in close on BC goaltender Katie Burt (22 saves) before depositing the puck into the net. The Terriers outshot BC, 14-10, in the first 20 minutes.

The Eagles evened the score 6:14 into the second period when Alex Carpenter redirected an Emily Pfalzer shot past Hanson. BU held strong defensively in that period despite being outshot, 11-4. The Terriers were bolstered by a penalty-killing unit that held BC to an 0-for-4 mark over the game and an 0-for-3 mark in the second period.

With the score tied, 1-1, Poulin notched her second game-winner of the weekend. Tutino gathered the puck behind the goal line and fed Poulin, who was stationed at the right post. The Beauceville, Quebec, native sent the puck past Burt for her 27th goal of the season.

Elia's goal came on a power-play chance with 7:29 remaining in regulation. Doyle sent a cross-ice pass to Elia, who beat Megan Keller to the puck on the right wing.She then darted to the net before deftly backhanding the puck past Burt for her seventh goal of the season. Lefort added an empty-netter with 1:24 on the clock to officially seal the victory.
