The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its three-game homestand on Saturday when the Terriers host No. 19 Loyola Maryland at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Saturday's contest will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, with fans being able to donate money at the stadium. Wounded Warrior Project has three distinct purposes; it raises awareness and enlists the public's aid for the needs of injured servicemen and women, it helps injured service members aid and assist each other, and it provides unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
"Playing for the Wounded Warrior Project means a lot to me," sophomore Pat Myers said. "It is such an important cause, yet it is not something that is talked about nearly enough even though most people are aware of the situation. Our wounded service members need our support more than ever. It really means a lot to play for such a great cause. I hope we can get a lot of fans out to the game to support and spread the message."
The Terriers will clinch a Patriot League postseason berth on Saturday with a win and a Holy Cross loss. Loyola is also vying for a spot in the conference tournament and can clinch with a victory on Saturday. If the Terriers lose, they will have another chance to clinch a spot next Friday against Holy Cross.
BU (6-5, 3-3 PL) will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday. The Terriers were edged by Harvard, 9-8, on Tuesday night despite 15 saves from sophomore Christian Carson-Banister and a hat trick from sophomore Adam Schaal. Schaal ranks first in the Patriot League and second in the nation with a shooting percentage of .556. Carson-Banister ranks first in the Patriot League in save percentage (.566) and third in the conference in goals-against average (8.20).
Sophomore Sam Talkow bounced back after a tough day at Army with a 16-of-21 performance at the faceoff X on Tuesday night. He collected six ground balls and scored his ninth goal of the season. Talkow is fifth in the NCAA and first in the PL in faceoff percentage (.665). He also leads the league in ground balls per game (7.18).
Loyola (6-6, 4-2 PL) was edged by No. 3 Maryland, 11-10, on Wednesday night. The Greyhounds have not lost two straight games this year but have only won two in a row just once, and that was back in February.
Junior Zach Herreweyers leads Loyola and the Patriot League with 37 goals and is tied with senior Nikko Pontrello for the team lead in points with 41. Pontrello is atop the Loyola leaderboard with 24 helpers and is one of three Hounds with at least 40 points this season. Sophomore Graham Savio is third in the PL with a faceoff percentage of .607, behind the Terriers' Sam Talkow (.656). Freshman goalkeeper Grant Limone owns a 10.15 goals-against average and a .527 save percentage.
The Terriers will play their final regular-season home game of the season next Friday night (April 17) when they host Holy Cross at Nickerson Field. The team will recognize senior Evan Herron prior to opening faceoff at 7 p.m.
