CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- A pair of sophomores from the Boston University men's lacrosse team earned All-League honors from the Patriot League, as Cal Dearth was a first-team selection and Sam Talkow earned second-team recognition, the conference announced on Monday.
This is the first time that any Terriers have earned yearly honors from the Patriot League. Dearth was chosen as a midfielder while Talkow was one of two faceoff specialists honored. Both players were instrumental in the Terriers' terrific second season; BU improved its win total from two to six overall and the Terriers were just one game shy of a postseason berth after a three-win conference campaign.
Dearth led the Terriers with 41 points on 18 goals and a team-best 23 assists. Twice he tallied a program-record seven points, including this past Friday against Holy Cross when he also set a single-game program record with six assists. He posted 10 multi-point efforts and he also collected 23 ground balls and caused six turnovers in 13 games. The Ridgefield, Connecticut, native was held off the score sheet just twice and scored the game-winner against Bucknell on March 21.
Talkow was one of the best faceoff men in the country in 2015. He ranked fourth in the country and first in the Patriot League in faceoff percentage at .662. Talkow was also 10th in the nation and first in the conference with an average of 7.31 ground balls per game. The Delray Beach, Florida, native was ahead of first-team selection Brady Dove in both those categories. In addition, Talkow won an NCAA-best 26 faceoffs and collected an NCAA-best 18 ground balls in an 18-11 win at then-No. 18 Colgate on March 7, which was the program's first-ever win over a ranked team.
BU will conclude the 2015 season at Duke on May 3.
