December 12, 2016 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior co-captain Natalie Flynn and junior goaltender Erin O'Neil of the Boston University women's ice hockey team each won a weekly award from Hockey East, as announced on Monday.
Flynn was named the league's Player of the Week while O'Neil earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Both players were instrumental in the Terriers' 6-5 overtime win over No. 2 Minnesota on Saturday. Flynn scored a career-high two goals, including the game-winner just 1:40 into the extra period, to collect her first weekly honor from the league.
O'Neil made 44 saves on Saturday in the victory, allowing just two even-strength goals. She stopped 19 shots in the third period to help hand Minnesota its first non-conference regular-season loss since 2009.
BU enters the semester break with an 11-7-1 record and will return to action on Jan. 7, 2017, when the Terriers travel out of town to face rival Boston College.
