WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior Maddie Elia of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Elia tallied an NCAA-best seven points thanks to three goals and a nation-leading four assists. She recorded two goals and an assist last Tuesday in a Beanpot tilt against Harvard before collecting two points in each of the Terriers' two wins over New Hampshire. Elia turned in a two-assist performance on Saturday in a comeback victory before lighting the lamp and adding her third helper of the weekend on Sunday.
The Lewiston, New York, native set a new career high for goals with 14 after Sunday's marker and is just two points shy of matching her career best of 28 points set during her rookie season. Elia ended last weekend with 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points.
BU will conclude its regular-season schedule this weekend with a home-and-home series against Northeastern that will begin Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.
