BOSTON - Juniors Alexis Crossley and Natalie Flynn were named co-captains of the 2016-17 Boston University women's ice hockey team, as announced on Sunday at the team's annual awards banquet.
Crossley and Flynn will be the 12th and 13th captains in program history. It is the first time that the Terriers will feature co-captains since the 2012-13 season, when Jill Cardella and Marie-Philip Poulin guided the team to the NCAA title game.
The team also handed out several awards on Sunday. Senior Sarah Lefort and sophomore Rebecca Leslie were named the team's Most Valuable Players after both players had sensational seasons. Cardella presented senior Dakota Woodworth the Friends of Hockey Unsung Hero Award while former Terrier Nicki Wiart gave the Most Improved Player Award to sophomore Savannah Newton.
In addition to being named a co-captain, Flynn was also given the Caroline Bourdeau Spirit Award, which was presented by former athletic trainer Maria Hutsack. Redshirt freshman Anna Streifel was a two-time winner on Sunday, receiving both the Strength and Conditioning Award as well as the Academic Honors Award.
