ANNAPOLIS, Md.. –
Junior Jack Wilson scored with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation to cap a fourth-quarter comeback and lift the Boston University men's lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over No. 17/18 Navy on Saturday afternoon.

THE RUNDOWN

Final Score: Boston University 8, #17/18 Navy 7
Records: BU (4-0), #17/18 Navy (1-3)
Location: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium - Annapolis, Md.

THE INCREDIBLE FINISH

  • Navy had the ball with less than a minute to play, but the Mids turned the ball over with 13 seconds left.
  • BU quickly advanced the ball up field, where it eventually landed on senior Cal Dearth's stick. He jumped, faked a shot, and passed to Wilson, who scored his third goal of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After several strong defensive possessions from both squads, Wilson got the first goal of the game with 3:41 left in the opening quarter. Sophomore James Burr found Wilson rolling out of X, and the junior dove across the crease to secure the goal.
  • Navy responded quickly with its first goal of the contest to even the score, 1-1, after 15 minutes.
  • Dearth got the Terriers their lead back early in the second quarter at the end of their first EMO chance thanks to freshman John MacLean's feed.
  • It became 3-1 after a terrific defensive stand. BU blocked two shots during that Navy possession and the ball eventually came to senior goalkeeper Christian Carson-Banister. He got the ball quickly up field to sophomore Thomas Schmidt, who then sent a pass into the box. The ball was deflected by a Navy defender, but Wilson quickly batted home the loose ball for his second goal of the game.
  • Senior Michael Carbone extended the lead to 4-1 after sophomore Brendan Homire found him wide open at the top of the crease.
  • BU held strong defensively to end the quarter, with Carson-Banister stopping a point-blank chance in the final seconds to keep the Terriers' three-goal lead in tact entering halftime.
  • Dearth extended the lead to 5-1, but Navy scored six straight goals to take a 7-5 lead early in the fourth quarter.
  • Homire got a goal back, however, when he ran out of X, turned a corner, and converted his jump shot.
  • Junior Greg Farris tied the game, 7-7, with 1:52 remaining in regulation to set up the thrilling conclusion.

GAME NOTES

  • Wilson extended his point streak to 30 games with his four-point day. In addition to scoring the winner, he set up Farris' goal that tied the game.
  • BU is 4-0 for the first time in program history.
  • The Terriers evened the all-time series with the Mids, 2-2.
  • Both of their wins against Navy have come on the final possession of the game. BU bested Navy, 10-9, in double overtime last season.
  • Carson-Banister made 10 saves and has yet to allow more than seven goals in all four starts this season.
  • Dearth finished with three points (2g, 1a) while Homire also recorded a multi-point game with a goal and an assist.
  • Junior Ryan Hilburn recorded an assist on Dearth's second marker of the game.
  • Senior Greg Wozniak collected seven ground balls, one shy of his career high.
  • BU was 16-of-18 on clears and caused five of Navy's 13 turnovers.
