BOSTON - Rocky Batty will join the Boston University men's lacrosse program as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Ryan Polley announced on Friday.
Batty, who has 25 years of coaching experience, just concluded his 10th season as the head boys' lacrosse coach at Wellesley High School. Since he took over as head coach at Wellesley in 2008, he amassed a record of 148-63, including an undefeated regular season in 2011 and a trip to the state semifinals in 2012. Batty also served as head coach at Brookline High School from 1999-2006. He began his coaching career as the JV coach at Brookline in 1992.
"I'm excited to get started all over again at BU," Batty said. "It's a chance to translate what I've learned to the college game, as well as an opportunity to learn from Coach Polley, his great staff, and some of the best players in the country. I'm eager to get going, looking forward to a terrific experience, and thankful to Coach Polley and BU for the opportunity. I'm also indebted to the Wellesley Lacrosse community for all that they do to support such a terrific program. My most sincere gratitude goes to John Brown, Wellesley's AD, all of the coaches I've worked with over the years, and the players and families who made Wellesley so special for me and my family for more than a decade."
Batty, a 1991 graduate of Brown University, played close defense for the Bears. Over 40 of Batty's pupils went on to play collegiate lacrosse during his tenure at Wellesley.
"We're excited to add someone with Rocky's experience," Polley said. "His reputation in the local lacrosse community is outstanding, and we feel he'll be an excellent addition to our program."
