Terriers Battle to 2-2 Tie at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Junior Abby Cook and senior tri-captain Reagan Rust each scored a goal to help the Boston University women's ice hockey team earn a 2-2 draw at Merrimack on Friday night at Lawler Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Merrimack (3-0-2, 0-0-1 WHEA) opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 13:13 of the first frame.
  • Cook answered just 43 seconds later with her first goal of the season. Junior tri-captain Natasza Tarnowski cycled the puck to freshman Alex Allan at the left point. She shuffled it over to Cook at the top of the zone, and the junior's wrister found its way through traffic and past Samantha Ridgewell (25 saves).
  • Rust gave BU (0-1-2, 0-1-2 WHEA) a 2-1 lead with 2:34 to play in the first period. She intercepted a Merrimack clearing attempt and sent a shot towards the cage. En route, the puck deflected off a Warrior defender's glove and into the back of the net for Rust's first goal of the season.
  • Sophomore goaltender Corinne Schroeder made eight of her 27 saves in the second stanza while the Terriers blocked six shots during the frame to keep their lead entering the final 20 minutes.
  • The Warriors equalized with 2:45 remaining in regulation when Katelyn Rae got behind the Terrier defense and collected her fourth goal of the year.
  • Schroeder salvaged a point for the Terriers in overtime with a sensational save on Paige Voight, who got behind the defense for a breakaway chance. That was one of four overtime stops for Schroeder.
  • The Terriers fired five shots on goal in the extra period, with redshirt junior tri-captain Sammy Davis responsible for the two best bids for BU over the final five minutes.
