HELLO, HOCKEY SEASON

  • The 2018-19 season will officially get underway for the Boston University women's ice hockey team this weekend, with the Terriers welcoming crosstown rival Northeastern to Walter Brown Arena for a weekend series.
  • Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m., while the weekend finale is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  • Admission for kids in the eighth grade or below is free for both days. There will also be free apple cider and donuts for all fans at both games.

AT HOME A DAY EARLIER THAN PLANNED

  • Friday's season opener against the Huskies was originally slated to be played at Matthews Arena, but a schedule change forced the contest over to Walter Brown.
  • The Oct. 28 contest between the two schools that was originally planned to be played at BU will now be played at NU.

A FAMILIAR STARTING POINT

  • This is the fourth straight year that BU has opened its regular season at home against a league foe.
  • BU is 3-1 in its last four home openers.
  • This is the first time since the 2011-12 season (North Dakota) that BU has opened with two straight home games against the same opponent.

START IT WITH A POSITIVE JAM

  • BU is 5-1-1 in its last seven season openers, outscoring opponents by a score of 23-12 in those contests.
  • During that stretch of seven openers, the Terriers have allowed an average of just 1.71 goals per game.
  • They have never allowed more than two goals in any of those seven openers.

HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES

  • Friday and Saturday will be the 56th and 57th meetings between the two schools.
  • The Terriers are 31-18-6 all-time against the Huskies, including an 12-10-1 at Walter Brown Arena.
  • BU has earned at least one point against Northeastern in each of its 13 seasons at the varsity level.
  • Six of the last eight games between the two teams at Walter Brown have been decided by just one goal.
