Men's Lacrosse Announces 2019 Captains
November 1, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Senior James Burr, senior Quintin Germain and redshirt junior Michael Laviano will serve as captains of the Boston University men's lacrosse team for the 2019 season, head coach Ryan Polley announced on Thursday.
Laviano will be a captain for the second straight year while Burr and Germain will be part of the Terriers' leadership group for the first time. All three players have been an integral part of the program since arriving at BU in the fall of 2015.
"I'm not surprised that James, Quintin and Michael were unanimously selected by their teammates," Polley said. "They have been outstanding leaders this fall and I'm expecting that will continue in 2019. I'm excited that Michael was recognized after having a great year both on and off the field. I'm also proud of James and Quintin for earning this honor. They have been great players for three years and have taken the next step leadership-wise."
Despite missing all of last season due to injury, Laviano had an enormous impact on the team with his vocal presence on the sideline, his leadership in the strength & conditioning room and his selflessness within the community. The Terriers will look forward to his return to the lineup this spring, as he should provide a spark to the BU midfield. In 2017, Laviano tallied six points on three goals and three assists. BU was 5-0 when Laviano recorded a point.
Burr scored a program-record 45 goals last year and added 11 assists to finish the season with a career-high 56 points. A 2018 Patriot League All-Tournament Team selection, Burr notched four goals in the semifinal game at Loyola after scoring twice at Bucknell. He found the back of the net in all 17 games last year and tallied two goals in 15 of those 17 contests. Burr has notched 97 career goals and is third all-time with 122 career points (97g, 25a).
Germain has been a three-year starter at close defense for the Terriers. He finished 2018 with 15 ground balls and six caused turnovers in 13 games. One of the best cover defenders in the conference, Germain held First Team All-Patriot League attackman Will Sands, who entered the game with 53 assists and 73 points, to zero goals and two assists in a 12-11 Patriot League quarterfinal win at Bucknell.
