The Boston University women's ice hockey team will close out the first semester with a trip to Rochester, New York, for a weekend series at RIT. Puck drop on Friday is set for 2 p.m., with the teams returning to the ice on Saturday at noon.
CHECKING ANOTHER RINK OFF THE LIST
- The Gene Polisseni Center will be the 39th different rink in which BU has played in its 14 seasons of Division I hockey.
- When the Terriers travel to Holy Cross on Jan. 18, that will be rink No. 40.
BRIEF HISTORY WITH RIT
- The Terriers and Tigers met for the first time last year, with the squads splitting a weekend series on Nov. 3 and 4, 2017.
- BU won the first game at Walter Brown Arena, 5-1, before RIT secured a 2-1 overtime win at Agganis Arena.
- The Terriers held a 4-0 lead just 20 seconds into the middle stanza in their victory thanks in part to goals by Abby Cook and Reagan Rust, who also added an assist against her former team.
- Jesse Compher, Deziray De Sousa, Nara Elia and Natasza Tarnowski each added an assist.
- Corinne Schroeder made 19 saves.
- In game two, Mary Grace Kelley tied the game, 1-1, in the second period thanks to assists from Elia and Kristina Schuler.
- Mallory Rushton converted on a penalty shot just 24 seconds into overtime.
- BU outshot RIT, 51-25, in the second contest and finished the weekend with a 91-45 shot advantage.
RETURN OF REAGAN RUST
- Senior tri-captain Reagan Rust will play in Rochester for the first time since she transferred from RIT at the end of the 2016-17 season.
- Rust recorded 32 points in two seasons with the Tigers.
- Her best year came as a freshman when she collected career highs in goals (5), assists (13) and points (18) en route to earning a spot on the CHA All-Rookie Team.
- Rust has notched two goals and one assist for three points this season and has recorded 53 career points (15g, 38a).
FAMILY TIES
- Sophomore Kristina Schuler will play close to home this weekend.
- She grew up in Webster, N.Y., about 15 miles from Rochester.
- Dan Schuler, Kristina's brother, was a standout on the RIT men's team from 2012-16 and won two league titles with the Tigers.
- Schuler heads home having just assisted on the game-winning goal in the Terriers' 4-2 win over No. 4 Boston College on Dec. 1.
- She has two assists in her last three games and also has one goal to her credit this season.
- Schuler has notched four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 48 career games.
TALKING ABOUT THE TIGERS
- RIT improved to 5-8-4 overall and 3-4-0 in the CHA with a weekend sweep of Lindenwood on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
- Senior Kendall Cornine leads the Tigers with eight goals and 13 points.
- Sophomore Brittney Gout has a team-high eight assists and is second on the squad with 11 points.
- Junior Terra Lanteigne (5-7-4) has started all 17 games, posting a 2.10 GAA and .939 save percentage.
DAVIS NAMED WHEA PLAYER OF WEEK
- Redshirt junior Sammy Davis was named Hockey East Player of the Week.
- No Division I player, male or female, had more assists (6) or points (7) this past week than Davis.
- She began her terrific three-game stretch with a goal and an assist on Nov. 27 in a 5-2 win at Brown.
- Davis then recorded two assists in the 3-2 win at BC on Nov. 30 before she concluded the weekend with a career-high three assists in Saturday's 4-2 win.
- She was also named the NCAA's No. 1 Star of the Week on Tuesday.
DAVIS DYNAMITE LATELY
- Redshirt junior tri-captain Sammy Davis has been outstanding over the last seven games.
- She has notched 15 points (4g, 11a) in that stretch, including a career-high three assists on Dec. 1 against BC for her fifth straight multi-point effort.
- Davis' point streak began with a three-point night (2g, 1a) at UConn on Nov. 9.
- The tri-captain is second on the squad in goals (8), assists (12) and points (20) and has also factored on three of the Terriers' last five game-winning goals.
STUART SELECTED AS ROOKIE OF WEEK
- Freshman Kate Stuart earned Hockey East Rookie of the Week honors after she made a career-high 42 saves in a 3-2 win at No. 4 BC on Nov. 30.
- Fifteen of her stops came against what was then the second-ranked power play among all Division I schools.
- She began her collegiate career with an 18-save victory over New Hampshire at Walter Brown on Oct. 13.
- Stuart has won both of her collegiate starts and boasts a .938 save percentage along with a 2.00 goals-against average.
COMPHER COLLECTING POINTS
- Sophomore Jesse Compher leads BU with nine goals, 15 assists and 24 points after she extended her point streak to 11 games (8g, 14a) on Dec. 1 in a 4-2 win over BC.
- It was Compher's sixth multi-point effort in the last seven games.
- She also notched her third game-winning goal of the year and added an assist in the 3-2 win in Chestnut Hill.
- Compher led the entire country with 2.17 points per game during November.
- She owns the longest active assist streak in the nation as well as the third longest active point streak in the NCAA.
- Compher is a plus-15 this season, including a plus-12 rating over the last eight tilts.
- She has recorded at least two points in eight of the Terriers' 14 games this year.
