Terriers Edged by Navy, 10-8

BOSTON – Seniors Jack Wilson (2g, 1a) and Hayden Ruiz (1g, 2a) each tallied three points, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 10-8 setback to Navy on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU (2-2, 0-1 PL) scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead with 3:41 left in the opening quarter.
- Navy (2-2, 1-0 PL) responded with five straight goals of its own to take a 5-3 lead early in the second quarter.
- The two teams combined for a strong defensive effort in the remaining 9:47 of the stanza, and the score remained 5-3 at halftime.
- BU then went on a four-goal run to open up a 7-5 advantage in the third quarter.
- Ruiz found Hilburn on a man-up chance to cut the Navy lead to 5-4 before junior Brendan Homire connected with Wilson for a 5-5 score.
- Wilson then fed junior James Burr for a 7-6 lead with 6:34 left in the third quarter.
- Sophomore John MacLean added another marker for the 7-5 advantage, but Navy answered with two straight goals to tie the game, 7-7, early in the fourth frame.
- Wilson made it 8-7 with 10:25 left, but Navy once again tied it with 7:49 to play.
- Both teams got big defensive stops, with sophomore Joe McSorley (12 saves) coming up with a huge stop in transition to keep the game tied.
- The Mids grabbed the lead for good when Greyson Torain scored with 59 seconds left.
- BU forced a late Navy turnover, but the Mids kept BU from clearing and then scored into an open net in the final seconds to secure the victory.
WILSON'S STREAK IN TACT
- Wilson moved his point streak to 47 games thanks to his three points.
- He has only been held without a point once in his entire career.
- In those 47 games, Wilson has tallied 78 goals and 47 assists for 125 points.
- Wilson has scored seven goals in the last two games.
- Senior Isaac Lipton had a career day on defense for the Terriers.
- He recorded career highs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (5) on Saturday.
- Lipton now has 12 ground balls and six caused turnovers this year.
- Seven different Terriers recorded a point and seven different players had a caused turnover.
- Gray also had four ground balls in addition to his goal.
- Senior Joe Stucky won seven faceoffs and had two ground balls.
- The Terriers will return to non-conference play on Tuesday night when they travel to Bryant.
