Eagles Spoil Dubois' Pitching Gem, 1-0, on Seventh-Inning Solo HR
March 28, 2018 | Softball
BOSTON – Despite freshman Ali Dubois allowing just three hits in her sixth complete-game performance of the season, the Boston University softball team fell in the home opener to Boston College, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
A year after claiming seven homers, Jordan Chimento roped a 3-1 pitch toward left center in the top of the seventh for her first homer of the season to help the Eagles (13-15) snap the Terriers' (15-16) eight-game win streak. Dubois (10-5) finished with four strikeouts against two walks, while former NFCA All-Region member Allyson Frei (4-7) limited BU to four hits and three walks for her second shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers left a combined seven runners on base, including two in the first after junior Madi Killebrew hit an infield single and senior Emma Wong walked with two outs.
- Frei ended the threat by getting a ground out to third.
- The Eagles' best chance to score before the seventh came in the fourth with two outs when Carly Severini doubled to left center.
- BC loaded the bases on a walk and hit-by-pitch, but Dubois induced a foul out to junior Emily Morrow.
- The Terriers had two on with one out following freshman Jen Horita's single and senior Brittany Younan's walk in the fifth, but Frei got a pair of ground outs.
- Trying to send the game to extra innings following Chimento's solo homer, senior Kaitlin Sahlinger led off with an infield single.
- Sahlinger took second on Horita's one-out sacrifice bunt, but Frei got another groundout to seal the victory.
- The three BC hits were the fewest allowed by Dubois in a seven-inning performance ... She previously held both Central Connecticut State and Northern Illinois to five hits in a pair of victories.
- Junior Alexa Ponce recorded BU's other hit with a two-out single in the fourth.
- Before the loss to the Eagles, BU's eight-game win streak was the program's longest against non-conference competition since 2006.
- With the walk, Wong extended her streak of reaching base to 17 games ... During the stretch, she's hitting .472 with 15 runs scored and eight RBIs.
- The Terriers are now 2-7 in one-run decisions this year with the other 1-0 loss occurring at then-No. 21 Long Beach State.
- BC improved to 25-21 all-time against the Terriers with their sixth-straight victory ... The Eagles were last held to one run by BU in a 3-1 loss to the Terriers in 2013.
- The Terriers were the first non-major conference opponent to hold BC below four hits this season ... Alabama had a no hitter, while Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Nebraska all allowed three hits.
- Selected to finish second in the Patriot League preseason poll, the Terriers will open conference play at Army on Saturday with the doubleheader slated to begin at 12 p.m.
- BU swept the series at home last season by a combined score of 23-1 before beating the Black Knights, 6-1, in the opening round of the PL tournament.
- In the last visit to West Point in 2016, the Terriers were swept by a combined score of 16-12 ... BU avenged those three losses in the PL tournament by beating the Black Knights twice, including 9-0 in the title game.
