Men's Lacrosse Announces Class of 2022
August 30, 2018 | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON – The Boston University men's lacrosse team will add 16 newcomers for the 2019 season, head coach Ryan Polley announced on Thursday.
Thirteen freshmen and three transfers comprise the incoming group, which consists of five attackers, five midfielders, three defenders, two long-stick midfielders and one goalkeeper. This is the Terriers' largest incoming class since they added 16 newcomers prior to the 2016 campaign. In addition, four of these players were selected as US Lacrosse All-Americans in high school.
"We're really excited for the Class of 2022," Polley said. "I think this class has a lot of depth in it and we think that we can replace some guys that graduated and fill some holes. We're excited about a couple of the offensive players coming and in and think they can be impact players. In addition, we're looking for the defenders to come in and challenge for some minutes. Hopefully they can contribute right away."
Will Carson (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played three years of varsity lacrosse at Skyline High School ... Two-time US Lacrosse All-American (2017, 2018) and also earned Adrenaline All-America honors as a senior ... Two-time first team all-state selection (2017, 2018) ... Earned second team all-state accolades as a sophomore ... Led Skyline to a state title in 2017 ... Also played football.
Polley on Carson: Will is one of the guys that we think can come in and compete immediately for playing time. He's a versatile player who can potentially help us both at LSM and down low. He was one of the best players in Washington; a really smart player who is also really athletic. Really excited to see how his game translates to college with the new rules.
Jake Cates (Germantown, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played three years of varsity lacrosse at Our Lady of Good Counsel ... Led his squad in points during each of the last two seasons en route to a pair of WCAC All-Conference selections ... Earned All-Met honors from the Washington Post in 2018 ... Started on the varsity team as a sophomore and was one of the leading point scorers ... Also played varsity soccer.
Polley on Cates: We're a little unsure of where Jake is going to play for us. He was a guy that we thought was going to come in and play D-middie and be an athletic transition-type player, but he had a really great senior year offensively. Definitely a versatile player and a guy who I think with the new change of rules could be very well-positioned to have a really nice collegiate career and excel in the transition game.
Jack Collins (Marblehead, Mass./Avon Old Farms)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Four-year varsity starter at Avon Old Farms ... Finished his high school career with 213 career points ... Was a 2017 US Lacrosse All-American ... Named an Adrenaline All-American as a senior ... Was the Bay League Offensive Player of the Year as a junior ... Broke the school's sophomore scoring record en route to an All-Founders League selection and a league championship.
Polley on Collins: Jack is a guy who we're really excited about who can add depth on the offensive side of the ball. We have two starters returning and that third position is up for grabs. We think Jack is a guy who will be in the mix for that. He's a smart lacrosse player who really worked on his finishing last year and scored a ton of goals off-ball. We really think Jack can come in and score some goals for us.
Andrew Dorman (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played three seasons of varsity lacrosse at Moses Brown, missing his junior season due to injury ... Earned Bob Scott Award from US Lacrosse in 2018, which is awarded to a player who goes above and beyond in service to his team, school, and community ... Earned first team all-state and all-division honors as a sophomore and helped guide squad to state title game ... Played for a state championship as a freshman ... Also played three years of varsity football and was elected captain for his senior year, though he did not play due to injury ... Won two state championships in football and was a second team all-division honoree as a junior.
Polley on Dorman: Andrew is your typical close defender. He has great size and good feet. We think Andrew is a guy who can come in and compete for playing time right away. He's got good agility and good feet. He understands angles and has a good stick for a player of his stature and size. He is aggressive and plays the ball hard.
Jett Dziama (Natick, Mass./Noble and Greenough)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played three seasons of varsity lacrosse at Noble and Greenough … Earned First Team All-ISL honors as a senior after he notched 51 goals and 10 assists while helping lead Nobles to ISL title … Named a 2018 BostonLax All-American … Scored 41 goals and added 22 assists as a junior en route to a First Team All-ISL selection … Tallied 21 points (17g, 4a) as a sophomore … Led the WBLL in points (31) and goals (24) during the box lacrosse season as a senior … Also played varsity hockey at Nobles.
Polley on Dziama: Jett is someone that we pegged as a defensive middie or a transition guy, but he's worked hard on his offensive skills. He's a terrific shooter with 12-15 yard range and he's become a pretty prolific scorer and dodger. I would be surprised if Jett doesn't challenge for playing time right away. I could see him running on our second line or even challenging for a first-line spot. With the rule changes, being a good athlete and somebody that can get up and down the field bodes well for his game.
Reece Eddy (Skaneateles, N.Y./Canisius)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Spent the past two seasons at Canisius, appearing in all 32 games that the team played ... Was a 2018 Second Team All-MAAC selection after he set a program record with 28 caused turnovers, which ranked him 15th in the nation in caused turnovers per game (1.65) ... Led the squad in ground balls in both 2018 (83) and 2017 (50) ... Also added five goals and two assists last year ... Finished 2018 with five or more ground balls on 10 occasions ... Scooped up career-high eight ground balls against then-No. 18 Robert Morris ... Led team with 17 caused turnovers as a freshman en route to earning spot on MAAC All-Rookie Team ... Prior to Canisius, played four seasons of varsity lacrosse at Skaneateles High School, captaining the team as a senior ... Three-time selection to the All-Central New York First Team ... Helped the Skaneateles hockey team to the state championship in 2015 and a runner-up finish in 2016 ... Two-time All-Central New York honoree in hockey and one-time selection in soccer.
Polley on Eddy: We're really excited about Reece. He had a tremendous sophomore year for Canisius. He was all over the field and got a ton of ground balls and played a ton of minutes last year. We're looking forward to seeing how his game translates to what we're trying to do. We anticipate him playing a lot of wing on faceoffs, being in our long stick rotation and being a playmaker for us.

Also served as freshman football captain.
Polley on Garber: We've been really excited about Matt for two years. He's a great ball stopper. He possesses good size and understands the position well. We're looking for Matt to come in and add depth to our goaltending position but also compete with Joe McSorley. Matt had a really nice high school career and is someone for whom we have high expectations.

Polley on Girolamo: Ben's a guy who will add depth to our offense, either at attack or midfield. He's a quick player who uses his speed as a dodger. He's not only a good scorer, but he sees the field well and can distribute the ball well. He led Pelham to one of its best seasons ever, and like most of these guys in this class, he developed towards the latter part of his career.
Matt Hilburn (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Polley on Hilburn: Matt had a really nice senior year for a strong team. He's a smart lacrosse player, similar to his brother Ryan. He's always going to make the right play and be in the right spot. He's athletic, so we're also going to also look at him in a dual role, either at attack or midfield. He's a nice off-ball player whose two best attributes are his IQ and stick skills.
Timmy Ley (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played varsity lacrosse at Massapequa High School ... Won the team's Scholar-Athlete Award all four years at Massapequa ... As a senior captain, was an all-county selection and also earned academic all-county honors for the second straight season.
Polley on Ley: We're going to look for Timmy to replace Ryan Hilburn. We prefer to start a lefty on attack and Timmy is going to be given an opportunity to compete for that spot. He understands lacrosse and knows where to be. He's a good off-ball player who can score in a variety of different ways. We're looking for Timmy to come in and be an impact player early in his career.

Markland Kelly Award which is given to the best player in Maryland ... Voted by his teammates to wear number 7 as a senior to honor Spalding legend Andy Esser ... Also played hockey.
Polley on McFarland: Nik possesses 12-15 yard range. He had a great senior year as both a shooter and as a dodger. We see a role for Nik on our man-up unit, but we think he has the ability to give us more. We expect him to challenge for a second-line position and wouldn't be surprised if he saw significant time as a freshman.
Eamon McTernan (Summit, N.J./Summit)
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played four seasons of varsity lacrosse at Summit High School ... Earned first team all-state honors as a senior after he scored 27 goals and added 15 assists ... Named a 2015 Under Armour Underclass All-American.
Polley on Nugent: Jared had one of the best senior years on Long Island and was a significant contributor for a tournament team in Villanova. He's going do everything for us. You'll see him at wing on faceoffs, you'll see him play some defense and you'll probably see him on our first line. We're really excited about Jared. I think a fresh start will rejuvenate him and give him an opportunity to reach his full potential. I'm hopeful Jared can be one of the best midfielders in our league.
Blake Rondeau (Worcester, Pa./La Salle College H.S.)

Helped lead La Salle to three straight PCL and District 12 titles … Was named to the All-Catholic Team as a senior while helping guide La Salle to a second state title game in three years … Also earned All-Catholic Team accolades as a junior … Also played football and basketball.

We like guys that can do both, but we foresee Will playing down low for us and be a really good cover guy. He's strong, he's got good feet and he's good off the ground.
