September 5, 2018 | Women's Ice Hockey
CALGARY, Alta. - Five former Boston University women's ice hockey standouts were invited to attend Canada's National Women's Team Fall Festival, an annual training camp aimed at helping develop and evaluate the nation's top female hockey players.
Two members of the Class of 2018 - Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie - will join three-time Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin ('15), two-time Olympian Jenn Wakefield ('12) and 2014 All-American Sarah Lefort ('16) at the festival, which will be hosted in Dawson Creek, B.C., Sept. 8-16. The Fall Festival will see national team prospects split into two squads – Team Red and Team White – to train and compete against each other as well as against local teams.
Bach and Leslie enter the festival having both signed contracts with CWHL clubs this summer. Bach, a First Team All-American and top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award last season, signed with the Markham Thunder while Leslie, the program's all-time leader in assists (101), inked a deal with the Calgary Inferno. Both players are coming off career years as Terrier seniors. Leslie, who captained Canada at the 2018 Nations Cup, became the first skater in program history to record 20 goals and 30 assists in same season thanks to career-highs in goals (24) and points (57). Bach set new program records for goals (39) and points (67) in a single season and holds the school record for career goals (104) and points (198).
Poulin was most recently the captain of Canada's Olympic team that earned silver at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2010, 2014) and graduated BU in 2015 as the program's all-time leader in points (181) and assists (100). Wakefield was teammates with Poulin on both the 2014 gold-medal winning Olympic team in addition to this year's team in Pyeongchang. She tallied 111 points (61g, 50a) as a Terrier and finished her decorated collegiate career with 206 points on 120 goals and 86 assists.
Lefort enjoyed a successful season with Les Canadiennes in the CWHL last season, ranking fourth in the league with 18 goals and adding 12 assists for 30 points in 28 games. A gifted goal scorer at BU as well, Lefort graduated in 2016 as the program's all-time leader in goals (92) and points (183). Prior to the 2017-18 campaign, Lefort held the single-season Terrier record with 32 goals in 2013-14.
