Correia Named Hockey East Rookie of the Week
January 21, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Courtney Correia of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
No NCAA freshman had more points (4) or goals (2) than Correia, who lit the lamp in each game in a weekend sweep of Holy Cross. She also led all Hockey East skaters in both of those categories. Her best game came on Saturday when she collected a career-high three points (1g, 2a), including the game-winning goal, in a 7-1 victory over the Crusaders. Correia finished the weekend as a plus-4 and has scored a goal in each of her last three games.
This is the first Hockey East Rookie of the Week honor for Correia, who has tallied four goals and added seven assists for 11 points this season, which is tied with classmate Kaleigh Donnelly (1g, 10a) for most points among Terrier freshmen. BU is 6-0-1 in the seven games in which Correia has collected at least one point this season.
The Terriers will return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 25, when they begin a home-and-home series against Merrimack at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised live on NESN.
