January 7, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore goaltender Corinne Schroeder of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Schroeder was sensational in a weekend series at Maine, allowing just one goal and making 41 saves. She stopped all 20 shots she saw on Sunday to lead the Terriers to a 3-0 victory over the Black Bears and earn her second career shutout. Schroeder also made 21 saves on Saturday in a hard-luck 1-0 loss. She finished the weekend with a league-best .976 save percentage and 0.51 goals-against average.
A native of Elm Creek, Manitova, Schroeder has been outstanding between the pipes for BU. No other goaltender in the NCAA, male or female, has a better save percentage (.973) or goals-against average (0.61) over their last five starts than Schroeder, who has not allowed a 5-on-5 goal in the last 313:11 she has played. Since Nov. 27, Schroeder is 5-1-1 and leads the league in both save percentage (.959) and goals-against average (1.02). For the season, Schroeder owns a 1.75 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
BU will return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 11, when the Terriers hit the road to begin a home-and-home series with Providence.
