BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team closed out its home weekend with a 1-0 to visiting Penn on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.

In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, the Quakers broke a scoreless deadlock in the 53rd minute.

BU falls to 3-7 while Penn improves to 3-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Scoring chances were at a premium for the majority of the contest.
The best opportunity of the opening half came for Penn in the fourth minute but BU goalkeeper Livy Golini made an impressive diving shot on Maddy Fagan's bid.
BU earned the game's first corner in the 21st minute but freshman Jodie Conolly's shot was blocked near the right post.
The Quakers' only two corners of the contest came back-to-back in the second minute of the second half but the Terrier corner defense didn't allow a shot on either try.
Penn's goal came on a play along the right side as Meghan Ward's entry ball found Madison Jiranek for a redirect in front of the cage at the 52:11 mark.
The Terriers pulled Golini in favor of an extra attacker with just over four minutes left in regulation but were unable to force overtime.

GAME NOTES

BU held a 5-2 advantage in corners.
Making her first start in goal as a Terrier, Golini made two saves with both coming in the opening quarter.
Ava Rosati also made a pair of saves to earn the win in goal for the visitors.
Each team recorded seven shots in the game.
