Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

No. 9 BU Blanked, 2-0, by No. 4 Northeastern in Series Finale

BOSTON — Despite leading in shots for most of the matchup, the No. 9 Boston University women's hockey team was unable to score against No. 4 Northeastern, falling 2-0 at Matthews Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Corinne Schroeder finished with 20 saves, including 17 in the final 40 minutes, while sophomore Mackenna Parker had a team-high three shots for the Terriers (5-3-1, 2-3-1 WHEA).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • While both teams had chances in front of the net, Northeastern (7-1-0, 4-1-0 HEAW) opened the scoring after Tessa Ward fired the puck through traffic at 15:43 in the first period.
  • BU went on the power play, the team's only one of the contest, less than a minute after the goal but was unable to capitalize.
  • The Terriers held a 9-4 shot advantage after the first period.
  • Veronika Pettey put the Huskies up, 2-0, in the second frame after receiving the puck from Matti Hartman right in front of the BU net.
  • One of the Terriers' best chances of the afternoon came in the final frame when Parker rushed up the left side of the ice and fired a close-range shot. However, Aerin Frankel, who made 20 saves on the night, trapped the puck.
  • Schroeder made two key saves with less than eight minutes left to keep Northeastern off the board in the third period.
  • BU pulled Schroeder from the net with 2:33 remaining in regulation for a 6-on-5 advantage but couldn't cut the Huskies' lead in half.

  • The Terriers went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
  • BU registered 16 blocks, compared to Northeastern's four.
  • The Huskies finished with a slight edge in shots, 22-20.
