No. 10 Terriers Travel to Providence Saturday

The No. 10 Boston University women's ice hockey team will travel to Providence on Saturday to face off against the Friars. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.

HISTORY WITH THE FRIARS

  • Saturday will be the 46th meeting between BU and Providence.
  • The Terriers are 28-14-3 against the Friars, though PC has the edge at Schneider Arena.
  • Providence owns an 11-8-2 record at home against BU.
  • The Terriers did defeat Providence, 5-3, in the team's last meeting in Rhode Island on Jan. 11, one of their two triumphs over the Friars during the 2018-19 campaign.

LAST TIME AGAINST PROVIDENCE

  • The Terriers suffered a 2-1 setback to the Friars in last year's regular-season finale at Walter Brown Arena.
  • Natasza Tarnowski lit the lamp for BU, with Abby Cook assisting on that marker.
  • Corinne Schroeder made 27 saves.

BEST OF BU AGAINST THE FRIARS

  • Jesse Compher and Abbey Stanley each lead the Terriers with six assists and seven points against the Friars.
  • Natasza Tarnowski (3g, 3a), Sammy Davis (2g, 4a) and Abby Cook (1g, 5a) all have four points against PC.
  • Nara Elia leads BU with four goals against Providence and joins Deziray De Sousa (2g, 3a) with five points.
  • Ten Terriers in total have secured at least two points against the Friars.
  • Sixteen skaters have at least one point against Providence.

FORECASTING THE FRIARS

  • Providence is 4-4-2 overall after a 5-2 loss at Boston College on Nov. 2.
  • The Friars have won two of their last four, both of which were 1-0 decisions.
  • One of those triumphs was over then-No. 3 Northeastern.
  • PC also played Penn State this year, earning a 2-2 tie after a 4-2 loss.
  • Junior Maureen Murphy leads Providence in goals (7) and points (11).
  • Senior defender Whitney Dove is the team's leader in assists with six.
  • Senior Clare Minnerath has started nine of the Friars' 10 games this season, posting a 2.68 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage.
  • Minnerath was between the pipes for the 1-0 win against Northeastern, stopping all 33 shots she faced.
  • She had only appeared in eight games total prior to this season and has faced BU just once in her career, a 5-2 loss on Jan. 22, 2017.

SCHROEDER CONTINUES TO SHINE

  • Junior Corinne Schroeder, named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month on Nov. 1, has yet to allow more than two goals in any of her seven starts this season.
  • She owns a .949 save percentage, which is fifth overall and second among goalies who have appeared in five or more games.
  • Schroeder also boasts a top-10 goals-against average in the NCAA at 1.43.
  • Saturday was the first time all season that Schroeder allowed multiple even-strength goals.

TRULY SPECIAL TEAMS

  • BU is one of five schools in the country to have a top-10 penalty kill and a top-10 power play unit.
  • The Terriers rank ninth in the nation and second in Hockey East with a 22.2% success rate on the power play.
  • BU is also ninth in the NCAA and second in the league on the penalty kill at 89.5%.

DEFENSE IS STINGY

  • BU has allowed just 1.67 goals per game, tied for eighth fewest in the country this season.
  • At even strength, BU gives up a mere 1.22 goals per game.
