December 9, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior goaltender Corinne Schroeder of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Schroeder was sensational in the Terriers' weekend sweep of No. 8 Boston College. She recorded her second shutout of the season when she stopped all 21 shots she faced in a 6-0 triumph at home on Friday night before making 25 saves in a 2-1 victory at BC the next day. Her save percentage of .979 was the best of any netminder that played two games this past week. Schroeder did not allow a 5-on-5 goal on the weekend and had a shutout streak of 170:12 snapped on Saturday. She still has a streak of not allowing an even-strength goal in her last 179:54 of work.
A native of Elm Creek, Manitoba, Schroeder has been one of the best goaltenders in the nation this season. She ranks third in the country with a .949 save percentage and is fifth in the NCAA with a 1.39 goals-against average. During the Terriers' current five-game win streak, Schroeder is 4-0-0 with a .961 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average.
This is the second time this year that Schroeder has garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades from Hockey East. She also won the award on Oct. 21.
