No. 7 Terriers Set for Beanpot Championship Showdown at Harvard

The No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team will look to complete its quest for its first Beanpot title as a varsity program on Tuesday night when the Terriers face off against Harvard at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m.

COULD THIS BE THE YEAR?

  • BU is in search of its first Beanpot title as a varsity program.
  • The Terriers' lone Beanpot title came in 1981, when they were still a club team.

ANOTHER BEANPOT MEETING WITH HARVARD

  • This is the eighth straight year that the Terriers and Crimson have met in the Beanpot.
  • BU is 1-0-1 against Harvard in the last two meetings, but the Crimson hold a 2-4-1 edge over those seven games.
  • Since BU became a varsity program, it is 2-7-1 against Harvard, including a 3-1 home loss in the 2008 championship game, the only other time since 2006 that the Terriers and Crimson have played for the title.
  • Harvard is 2-0 all-time against BU in the Beanpot championship round, including a 2-1 triumph in 1982.

HISTORY IN THE BEANPOT

  • BU is making its second straight and seventh overall appearance in a Beanpot title game.
  • Last year, the Terriers dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker in OT against host Boston College.
  • As a varsity program, BU has been to five championship contests.
  • The Terriers have tallied at least two goals in each of their last 10 Beanpot games.

HISTORY AGAINST HARVARD

  • BU improved to 5-8-2 overall against Harvard with its 3-2 win the opening round of last year's Beanpot tournament.
  • Three of those five wins have come in non-Beanpot contests.
  • The Terriers are 2-3-0 all-time against the Crimson at Bright-Landry, including a 4-3 overtime win in their last meeting there on Nov. 22, 2016.

LAST YEAR AGAINST HARVARD

  • Jesse Compher's power-play goal 6:09 in the first period capped a run of three goals in 2:21 and proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 triumph over Harvard in the first round of the 2018 Beanpot at BC.
  • Harvard cut the deficit to 3-2 early in the second period, but Corinne Schroeder made eight saves in the third period to clinch the win.
  • Mary Grace Kelley and Abby Cook each added one assist for BU.

  • The Crimson has won five straight games and is unbeaten in its last six contests dating back to Jan. 26.
  • It has averaged 3.33 goals per game during that six-game streak while allowing only 0.83 goals per game.
  • Harvard defeated Union (5-1) and RPI (2-1) on the road this past weekend.
  • The Crimson advanced to Tuesday's title tilt with a 4-1 win over No. 7 BC.
  • Freshman Lindsay Reed, who made 23 saves in the win at RPI on Saturday, stopped 52 BC shots last Tuesday.
  • Reed has posted a .966 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average over her last three starts.
  • Senior Lexie Laing leads the Crimson with 19 points (7g, 12a).
  • Sophomore Becca Gilmore leads the team with 14 assists and is tied for second on the squad in points (17) with freshman Kristin Della Rovere (10g, 7a).
  • Della Rovere's 10 goals is best on Harvard this season.

LIFE SINCE NOVEMBER HAS BEEN GOOD

  • The Terriers are 15-3-4 since Nov. 9.
  • During that span, they have averaged a league-high 3.91 goals per game while boasting the best defense in Hockey East, allowing just 1.68 goals per game.
  • The Terriers have the third-best power play in the country since Nov. 9, clicking at 27.6%, while their penalty kill ranks fourth in the NCAA at 89.0%.

QUITE THE STREAK FOR BU

  • The Terriers enter the weekend with the longest active unbeaten streak in the nation at 10 games.
  • BU is 8-0-2 since Jan. 6.

INSIDE THE LAST NINE GAMES

  • BU ranks first in Division I in goals (49), assists (88) and points (137) since its 10-game unbeaten streak began on Jan. 6.
  • The Terriers have averaged 4.90 goals per game during that time, which also ranks first among Division I teams.
  • Going back to Dec. 30, the Terriers have only allowed 1.69 goals per game.
