No. 7 Terriers Skate to 3-3 Tie with New Hampshire

BOSTON - Sophomore Jesse Compher and redshirt junior Sammy Davis each tallied one goal and two assists to help the No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team skate to a 3-3 tie with New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at Agganis Arena.

Compher set a new single-season program record on Saturday with her 37th assist of the season. She broke Marie-Philip Poulin's record of 36 assists, which Poulin set during the 2012-13 campaign.

Junior Breanna Scarpaci scored her first goal of the year while classmate Abby Cook and freshman Mackenna Parker both added one assist apiece. Freshman Kate Stuart made 41 saves for BU, one stop shy of her career high.

The point, coupled with a Merrimack tie earlier in the day, clinched home-ice advantage in the Hockey East quarterfinals for the Terriers. They can finish no lower than fourth in the standings and will host a best-of-three quarterfinal series at Walter Brown Arena beginning on March 1.

BU (17-6-8, 13-5-6 WHEA) extended its nation-long unbeaten streak to 12 games (9-0-3) with the tie. UNH is now 13-4-5 overall and 10-13-2 in the league after Saturday's result.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Scarpaci opened the scoring for BU at 8:11 of the first period when her shot from the left circle got past Kyra Smith (27 saves).
Taylor Wenczkowski tied the game 6:25 into the second period, but Davis responded at 143:44 of the frame to regain the lead. Smith stopped Compher's initial shot, but the rebound popped in the air and Davis knocked it into the net for her league-leading 23rd goal of the year.
Wenczkowski tied the contest again with 5:32 remaining in regulation, but the Terriers once again regained their one-goal advantage thanks to Compher's goal just 36 seconds later.
Compher skated past two Wildcats at the top of the zone before racing to the slot, fighting off a check and slotting the puck past Smith for her 17th goal of the season.
Wenczkowski completed her hat trick with 21.1 seconds to play with an extra-attacker goal.

GAME NOTES

Compher extended her point streak to 12 games (6g, 16a) with her three-point afternoon.
She leads the league and is second in the nation with 37 assists.
Davis pushed her point streak to eight games (9g, 10a).
She has notched a goal in all eight contests.
Cook has collected a point in eight of her last nine games.
