Compher Named Top-10 Patty Kazmaier Finalist

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore Jesse Compher of the Boston University women's ice hockey team is a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.
This is the second straight year and fourth time overall that a Terrier has been a top-10 finalist for the prestigious award, which is given annually to the top NCAA Division I women's ice hockey player. Victoria Bach ('18) and three-time Olympic medalist Marie-Philip Poulin ('15) were top-3 finalists in their respective senior seasons, while Sarah Lefort ('16) was a top-10 nominee in 2014.
Compher is in the midst of a sensational sophomore season. She enters the weekend tied for first in the nation with a program-record 38 assists and ranked third in the NCAA with 55 points (17g, 38a). Compher has recorded a point in an NCAA-high 28 different games and is second in the country with 18 multi-point efforts. She has notched a nation-leading 30 of her 55 points away from home, including an NCAA-best 20 assists. Compher is second in the country in assists per game (1.19) and fourth among NCAA skaters in points per game (1.72).
It has truly been a breakout year for Compher, who is one goal away from doubling her goal, assist and point totals from a year ago. One of the most unselfish players in the country, she leads the NCAA with 24 primary assists and has assisted on a goal in an nation-best 27 different games. Compher enters the final weekend of the regular season on a 13-game point streak, which is the second time this year that she has compiled a point streak of 13 games or longer.
In addition to her stellar play on the ice, Compher has been committed to several community initiatives both at BU and in her hometown of Northbrook, Illinois. She has participated in the Boston University Athletics Holiday Reading Program as well as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Compher also helped organize the team's social media campaign for this season's Do It For Daron game to raise awareness for mental health. Back home, Compher volunteers at a soup kitchen with St. Norbert's Church. She has also worked with Habitat for Humanity and helps with the JT Compher and Family Bluehawks Scholarship 3-on-3 Tournament.
