The No. 8 Boston University women's ice hockey team will begin its quest for the first Beanpot title in program history on Tuesday night when the Terriers face off against No. 3 Northeastern at Harvard's Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Puck drop for the first semifinal is set for 5 p.m. No. 7 Boston College will face the host Crimson at 8 p.m.

COULD THIS BE THE YEAR?

  • BU is in search of its first Beanpot title as a varsity program.
  • The Terriers' lone Beanpot title came in 1981, when they were still a club team.

HISTORY IN THE BEANPOT

  • BU made its sixth appearance in a Beanpot title game last year, dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker in OT against host Boston College.
  • As a varsity program, BU has been to four championship contests.
  • Since 2006, the Terriers are 1-2-1 in the opening round against Northeastern and 4-3-2 overall against the Huskies.
  • The Terriers have tallied at least two goal in each of their last nine Beanpot contests.

HISTORY WITH THE HUSKIES

  • Tuesday's tilt will be the 59th meeting between the two schools.
  • The Terriers are 31-19-7 all-time against the Huskies.
  • BU has earned at least one point against Northeastern in each of its 14 seasons at the varsity level.

BEST OF BU AGAINST NORTHEASTERN

  • Jesse Compher leads the Terriers with five points against Northeastern thanks to a goal and a team-best fourassists.
  • Nara Elia leads the Terriers with three goals against the Huskies, including one in the last meeting on Oct. 28.
  • Sammy Davis has tallied a goal and two assists while Mary Grace Kelley, Kristina Schuler and Natasza Tarnowski all have a goal and an assist apiece against NU.
  • Abby Cook and Abbey Stanley have each recorded a pair of assists against the Huskies.
  • Fourteen Terriers in total have notched at least one point against Northeastern.

NEWS ABOUT NORTHEASTERN

  • Northeastern enters the Beanpot on a five-game win streak, including a 2-1 overtime win at UConn on Friday.
  • The Huskies have only lost in 2019.
  • Freshman Alina Mueller leads Northeastern with 36 points thanks to 14 goals and a team-high 22 assists.
  • Senior Kasidy Anderson is first on NU with 16 goals and is one of five Huskies with at least 20 points.
  • Sophomore Aerin Frankel has started all 18 games in which she has appeared, posting a .945 save percentage and a 1.40 goals-against average.
  • Frankel started only the season opener against BU.

OCTOBER WAS A WHILE AGO

  • BU and Northeastern completed their Hockey East regular-season series on Oct. 28 when NU earned a 2-1 home win.
  • The Terriers and Huskies skated to a 3-3 tie on Oct. 6 at Walter Brown Arena, one day after BU suffered a 5-0 home setback in the season opener.
  • On Oct. 28, BU outshot Northeastern, 15-1, in the third period but lost, 2-1.
  • Sophomore Nara Elia lit the lamp with 30 seconds to play in the the third period.
  • Freshman Mackenna Parker and sophomore Jesse Compher both assisted on Elia's marker.

THINGS ARE A BIT DIFFERENT NOW

  • The Terriers are 14-3-3 since Nov. 9, their first game following that Oct. 28 loss at Northeastern.
  • During that span, they have averaged 3.8 goals per game while boasting the best defense in Hockey East, allowing just 1.65 goals per game.
  • The Terriers have the best power play in the country since Nov. 9, clicking at 29.4%, while their penalty kill ranks fourth in the NCAA at 90.4%.

QUITE THE STREAK FOR BU

  • The Terriers enter the weekend tied for the longest active unbeaten streak in the nation at eight games.
  • BU is 7-0-1 since Jan. 6, with the one tie coming at Merrimack on Jan. 26.

INSIDE THE LAST SEVEN GAMES

  • BU ranks first in the country in goals (39), assists (71) and points (110) since its eight-game unbeaten streak began on Jan. 6.
  • The Terriers have averaged 4.88 goals per game during that time, which also ranks first among Division I teams.
  • BU has only allowed 1.88 goals per game since Jan. 6.
  • Going back to Dec. 30, the Terriers have only allowed 1.64 goals per game.
