Burr Selected by Boston Cannons in MLL Draft
March 10, 2019 | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Senior James Burr of the Boston University men's lacrosse team was selected by the Boston Cannons in the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Draft, held Saturday night at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Burr is the third Terrier to be taken in the league's collegiate draft, joining 2017 graduates Dominick Calisto and Cal Dearth. The Cannons chose Burr with the first pick of the seventh round. Should he sign with the Cannons after his senior season, Burr will become the fifth player in program history to join an MLL franchise. He will have an opportunity to once again play with Dearth, who will enter his second full season with the Cannons in 2019. Calisto is currently with the Ohio Machine, the team with which he won a title in 2017. Christian Carson-Banister and Greg Wozniak made their MLL debuts last season with the Dallas Rattlers and Denver Outlaws, respectively.
A native of Hamtilon, Massachusetts, Burr has been terrific in his senior season with the Terriers. He is second in the Patriot League with 21 goals and he has added eight assists for 29 points in seven games. Burr has found the back of the net in 24 straight games and is program's all-time leader in goals with 118. He needs just three more points to move past Dearth into second on the program's leaderboard with 154 career points. In addition to his excellence on the field, Burr is a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
