April 30, 2026 | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomores Madden Murphy and Timothy Shannehan of the Boston University men's lacrosse team were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the league announced on Thursday.
Both standouts earned the honor in their first year of eligibility. They were notably the only two members of the 12-person squad to have also earned First Team All-Patriot League accolades this season.
Murphy was named Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year while also maintaining a 3.36 GPA as a hospitality administration major. He finished the regular season second in the PL and 18th in the NCAA with a .589 faceoff win percentage and was tied for the league lead with 162 faceoff wins. He entered the postseason with a league-best 6.33 ground balls per game, a mark good for 17th in the country. Overall, Murphy won at least 10 faceoffs in 10 of his 13 appearances, including three 20-win efforts. One of those was a 20-for-27 outing at Lehigh in which he won the final two faceoffs of the game to help BU force overtime in the final seconds and score on the opening possession of overtime. He was 20-for-25 with 11 ground balls in an overtime win over Bucknell, went 17-of-28 with a career-high 13 ground balls against then-No. 3 Harvard, and also was 21-of-32 in Tuesday's playoff game against Lehigh.
Shannehan was the top attackman in the Patriot League while compiling a 3.21 GPA in the Questrom School of Business. Now a two-time First Team All-Patriot League standout, Shannehan entered the postseason as the nation's leader in points per game (5.46) and was also fourth in the NCAA and first in the PL with 2.85 assists per game. No player in the Patriot League recorded more assists (37) or points (71) in the regular season than Shannehan, who was the first player in the NCAA (and the only PL player) to reach 30+ goals and 30+ assists this season. He ended the year with 34 goals and 42 assists for 76 points.
Ten different Terriers have combined to earn 15 Academic All-Patriot League selections since 2016. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first year of academic study are not eligible for the honor.
