The Terriers held the edge in shots (8-7) and shots on goal (4-3), but could not put one into the back of the net after 110 minutes of play.
How It Happened
- Denver got an early chance in the box in the 11th minute, but Morgan Messner came off her post to deflect the threat, and smothered the service on the ensuing corner kick.
- Anna Heilferty rocketed BU's first shot of the game off in the 24th minute that veered wide left of the frame.
- Caitlin DiSarcina nearly put the Terriers on the board in the final minutes of the half with back-to-back shots on goal.
- First, she tapped a one-timer just outside the six-yard box on a feed from Julianna Stureman, though the keeper stepped up to block the shot before DiSarcina's rebound went off the right post.
- Denver pressed early in the second half with several feeds into the box that Messner easily covered, while BU started to pick up the tempo offensively and take control of the offensive third.
- Kelly Harris almost slid a shot into the back-right corner, nutmegging a Pioneer defender with a one-timer inside the 18-yard box, where Denver's goalkeeper made a diving save to hold the score.
- The Pioneers accounted for the final four shots over the final 23 minutes of regulation.
- Elle Conlin ripped a shot from 25 yards out to open the second frame of overtime in what proved to be the lone scoring threat over the extra 20 minutes of play.
- BU moved to 10-13-2 all-time in season-opening games.
- Thursday marked the first time since 2011 that BU needed overtime in a season opener, where it drew a 1-1 double overtime decision against Boston College.
- With the draw, BU carries its unbeaten streak from last season to 10 games.
- Messner earned the shutout in net and collected three saves.
- Lily Perryman and Messner were the lone Terriers to play every minute of the match.
- Seven of BU's 10 newcomers to the roster saw the field, while 21 of 28 players available saw action.
- BU will close out its two-game road trip against Colorado Boulder on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. EST.
