Women's Ice Hockey Announces 2020-21 Schedule
November 11, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The ninth-ranked Boston University women's ice hockey team will open its 2020-21 regular season on Friday, Dec. 4, as announced by Hockey East on Wednesday.
The Terriers will travel to Maine for a two-game series with the Black Bears on Dec. 4 and 5. Those contests will begin an 18-game league schedule, with BU facing each of its nine other conference foes twice. The Terriers will open their home slate on Dec. 12 when they host Vermont for the first of a two-game series at Walter Brown Arena.
There are also two weekends that are designated as "flex weekends." These four contests are tentative and opponents may be adjusted in order to maintain a competitively balanced schedule for each team. If games are postponed during the regular season, these flex weekend games will be rescheduled with those postponed games. Any games played during flex weekends will be designated as non-conference games and will not count towards the league standings. The Terriers' two flex weekends are a home-and-home series with Providence (Feb. 12-13) and a two-game slate at Vermont (Feb. 19-20).
Official word on the Beanpot and Hockey East tournaments will be announced at a later date.
While spectators will not be permitted at home games, Hockey East will once again partner with NESN and ViacomCBS Digital to provide fans across the world the opportunity to view every single Hockey East game in the 2020-21 season. Today, Hockey East announced a slate of games that can be seen on NESN through January 1, as well as news that all other streamed games will be made available to fans for free on one of ViacomCBS Digital's platforms. Full television schedule details and How-To-Watch information about streamed games, as well as specific game times, will be announced in the coming days.
"I would like to thank the Hockey East office and the administrators at each of the respective institutions; their dedicated effort to generate a shortened schedule will hopefully raise the student-athletes' spirits in a competitive and safe environment," said head coach Brian Durocher. "Our team looks forward to competing against talented opponents throughout Hockey East."
Led by Durocher, who is in his 16th season at the helm of the program, BU is ranked ninth in both national preseason polls. The Terriers return 17 letter winners from last year's squad that won 24 games and finished second in the league standings. Senior co-captains Nara Elia and Jesse Compher are the team's leading returning scorers, with Elia posting a career-high 30 points (11g, 19a) last year. Senior goaltender Corinne Schroeder is back after she set new single-season program records last season when she ranked fourth in the NCAA with a .943 save percentage and was fifth among all NCAA goaltenders with a 1.54 goals-against average, and she will be joined between the pipes by junior Kate Stuart, who posted an impressive 8-1-1 record in 2019-20 with a .938 save percentage and a 1.58 goals-against average. Senior Kristina Schuler and junior Kaleigh Donnelly will serve as assistant captains in Durocher's 16th season at the helm of the program.
