Men's Lacrosse Heads to UMass Lowell on Saturday
February 14, 2020 | Men's Lacrosse
The Boston University men's lacrosse team will begin a stretch of four straight road games on Saturday when the Terriers travel to UMass Lowell to face the River Hawks. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
BUSY STRETCH OF GAMES
- BU will begin a stretch of three games in seven days when it heads to Lowell on Saturday.
- The Terriers will visit Bryant on Tuesday afternoon before traveling to Bellarmine next Saturday (Feb. 22) for the first time in program history.
HISTORY WITH UMASS LOWELL
- The Terriers have won both of their previous meetings with the River Hawks, including an 18-8 triumph in Lowell in 2017.
- BU also bested UMass Lowell, 8-5, at Nickerson Field in 2016.
LAST TIME AGAINST LOWELL
- BU defeated UMass Lowell, 18-8, on Feb. 11, 2017.
- Joe McSorley made his collegiate debut in that game, stopping eight of the nine shots he faced in 10:59 of work.
- Chase Levesque finished the day with three ground balls.
- Nicholas Ellerton and Kaveh Torabian were the other two current Terriers to see action that day.
- Cal Dearth ('17) led BU with five assists and six points while James Burr ('19) paced the Terriers with three goals.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
- UMass Lowell earned a 10-9 home win over Quinnipiac in its season opener last weekend.
- Dakota Clark led the River Hawks with four goals while Domenic Giachello and Kyle Laforge each notched two goals and one assist.
- Hunter Braun made 10 saves.
- UMass Lowell went 3-for-22 at the faceoff X and only managed to win 17 ground balls, but the River Hawks limited their turnovers to just 12 while causing 13 of the Bobcats' 21 giveaways.
- Brett Dattilo was responsible for all three of Lowell's faceoff victories.
CHRISTMAN EARNS WEEKLY AWARD
• Junior Sean Christman was selected as Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Week on Monday.
• Christman went 15-of-18 (83.3%) at the X in the Terriers' game against Ohio State.
• He also gathered 12 ground balls, had an assist and did not turn the ball over.
• This was the second straight week that he led the Patriot League in faceoff percentage.
HOW GOOD HAS CHRISTMAN BEEN?
- Junior Sean Christman has lost just nine faceoffs this year, going 30-for-39 at the X in two games.
- That percentage of .769 ranks fourth in the country and first among NCAA players that have competed in at least two games.
- Even more impressive is that Christman has taken every faceoff this season.
- To put that in perspective, BU ranks third as a team in faceoff percentage.
- Christman also ranks second in the conference and seventh in the nation with 19 ground balls.
- Only four other players have turned in a better single-game performance at the X this season than Christman's 83.3% success he sustained on Saturday.
REECE WREAKS HAVOC
- Senior Reece Eddy is tied for second in the nation with eight caused turnovers.
- Eddy, who led the country with five caused turnovers in the Terriers' season opener against Providence, forced another three giveaways against Ohio State.
- He has also notched 10 ground balls, including eight on Saturday against the Buckeyes.
- Only two non-faceoff specialists in the NCAA have more ground balls this year than Eddy.
- No returning Patriot League player caused more turnovers last year than Eddy (34).
- Eddy also totaled 71 ground balls last year.
EDDY NOT THE ONLY ONE CAUSING TROUBLE
- As a team, BU leads the nation with 30 caused turnovers.
- The Terriers also have an NCAA-best average of 15.0 caused turnovers per game.
- They led the NCAA with 11.71 caused turnovers per game last year.
- Thirteen different Terriers have at least one caused turnover this season.
- In addition to Eddy's eight caused turnovers, senior Chase Levesque (4), sophomore Will Carson (3) and freshman Collin Loughead (3) are among the BU leaders in that category.
