COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Junior
Jesse Compher of the Boston University women's ice hockey team has been named to the U.S. Women's National Team that will compete in the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship this April in Canada.
This is the second straight year that Compher will represent the United States at the Women's World Championship. She helped Team USA claim gold at last year's tournament in Finland. Compher also appeared for the senior national team in the first two games of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series against Canada this past December, centering her country's top line in the second of those two contests. The Northbrook, Illinois, native has participated in three major international tournaments with the U.S., having also skated in the 2016 and 2017 Under-18 Women's World Championships, and has won gold all three times.Â
Compher has been fantastic for the Terriers this season. After missing her team's first nine games due to injury, Compher returned to the lineup on Nov. 9 and has totaled 28 points (13g, 15a) in 24 games. A terrific two-way player, Compher has won 58.9% of the faceoffs she has taken, which ranks sixth in Hockey East. Compher has factored on four game-winning goals and BU is 15-0-1 this year when Compher collects at least one point.
The 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship will take place March 31-April 10 in Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia.
