No. 8 Terriers Head to Holy Cross Saturday

The eighth-ranked Boston University women's ice hockey team will travel to Holy Cross on Saturday for a Turnpike Trophy tilt against the Crusaders. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.

LOOKING AT THE LEAGUE STANDINGS

  • While the second-place Terriers cannot catch first-place Northeastern, they sit in good position to earn the No. 2 seed for the league playoffs.
  • BU has 29 points, one more than third-place Boston College and four more than fourth-place Providence.
  • The Terriers own the head-to-head tiebreaker against both those schools.
  • UConn is in fifth place with 24 points and can still catch BU for home-ice advantage since the Huskies and Terriers will play two games at Walter Brown Arena to end the season.

HISTORY WITH HOLY CROSS

  • BU is 5-0-0 against Holy Cross over the last two seasons.
  • The Terriers have held the Crusaders to just one goal in each of those five victories.

TUESDAYS ARE FOR THE TERRIERS

  • BU defeated Boston College, 4-0, in the opening round of the 42nd annual Women's Beanpot at Walter Brown Arena on Tuesday night.
  • Junior Corinne Schroeder stopped all 33 shots she faced for her third shutout of the season.
  • Junior Jesse Compher scored two goals in a span of 2:25 to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead just 3:18 into the third period.
  • Senior Abby Cook's first-period strike stood as the game-winner.
  • Senior Deziray De Sousa added an empty-netter to seal the victory.
  • Redshirt senior Sammy Davis and senior Natasza Tarnowski assisted on Cook's goal.
  • Junior Nara Elia and sophomore Courtney Correia provided the helper's on Compher's first goal while junior Kristina Schuler assisted on De Sousa's tally.
  • BU only took two penalties and killed both power-play chances it faced.
  • The Terriers blocked 20 shots, led by senior Breanna Scarpaci's six blocks.

IT'S NOT EASY TO BEAT BU

  • BU has yet to lose a game by more than two goals this season.
  • Both of the Terriers' defeats this semester have been by a 2-1 score.

SCHROEDER HAS BEEN SENSATIONAL

  • Junior goaltender Corinne Schroeder earned her third shutout of the season on Tuesday against BC.
  • Her 33-save performance against the Eagles marked the second time she shut them out.
  • Schroeder ranks fifth in the NCAA with a .943 save percentage and sixth overall with a 1.50 goals-against average. 
  • She has allowed just five even-strength goals in eight starts against Beanpot opponents this year.
  • Harvard was the last Beanpot team to tally a goal at 5-on-5 against Schroeder, doing so in a 6-2 loss on Nov. 19.
  • Schroeder has been excellent on the road this season, sporting a .944 save percentage and eight wins away from Walter Brown Arena.

STUART STRONG, TOO

  • Sophomore Kate Stuart has been sharp in her seven starts this year.
  • She is 6-1-1 with a .937 save percentage and a 1.72 goals-against average.
  • In her six wins she has posted a .941 save percentage and a 1.48 goals-against average.
  • Over the last seven games, Stuart owns a .943 save percentage and a 1.39 goals-against average.

DEZ KEEPS DELIVERING

  • Senior Deziray De Sousa has been outstanding over the last eight games.
  • De Sousa has registered a point in seven of her last eight contests (6g, 3a) and extended her point streak to five games (4g, 2a) with a goal on Tuesday.
  • That was her fourth straight game with a goal, which is tied for the second longest goal-scoring streak in the NCAA.
  • De Sousa has factored on seven game-winning goals this season.
  • She scored a career-high two goals, including the eventual game-winner, in a 4-1 win over Holy Cross on Jan. 17.
  • De Sousa enters Friday with career highs in goals (8), assists (10) and points (18).

THE COMPHER FACTOR

  • Since junior Jesse Compher made her season debut on Nov. 9, the Terriers are 14-3-2.
  • Compher leads the Terriers with nine goals since her return and has also added 13 assists to total 22 points, which is tied with Sammy Davis for the most on the team since Nov. 9.
  • She tallied two goals in the Terriers' 4-0 win over BC on Tuesday.
  • BU is 12-0-1 this season when Compher collects a point.
  • Compher has also generated a team-high 73 shots on goal since Nov. 9 and has won 183 faceoffs.
  • Compher dominated the faceoff circle on Tuesday, winning 15 of the 16 draws she took.
